Tom Hanks and Typewriter, Original Artwork, Large 42cm x 29.7cm
It is widely-known that Tom Hanks is an avid collector of typewriters. Owning around 250 typewriters in total, Hanks’ obsession is no joke, telling the London Literature Festival in 2017: “What thrills me about typewriters is that they are meant to do one thing and one thing only and with the tiniest amount of effort, maintenance, it will last a thousand years.”
Typewriter artist James Cook was honoured to receive a signed drawing returned by the Hollywood superstar back in 2022. This new portrait honours the actor’s collection and includes concealed type-written extracts from his latest novel; The Making of Another Major Motion Picture Masterpiece: A Novel, released in May 2023. In addition, the work conceals an ‘ideal shopping list’ of typewriter makes and models typed out on a machine sitting on a desk. Moreover, the right-hand corner of the artwork notes out a humorous note from the artist.
This unique, totally one-off artwork has been typed over a period of two week in April 2023. The artwork measures 42cm x 29.7cm. The artwork is typed on 150gsm archival acid free paper. The drawing was typed with a 1963 Olympia SG3 typewriter; a machine that artist James Cook favours most when typing portraits. The artwork has not yet been revealed on the artist’s socials, but a video of the making of the artwork will be released later this month on his Instagram and Tik Tok channel. This is a very special drawing which intertwines both typewriter and Hollywood glamour. The artist is happy to include a personalised type-written letter to the receiver of the artwork. In addition, the artwork will be appended with a certificate of authenticity certifying the artwork as an original and not a reproduction. The artwork is signed by the artist and dated on the back of the drawing.
All drawings are hand-packaged by the artist and personalised with a signed message to the customer. In this case, please allow up to 1 week before notification of a tracking number whilst the artist prepares your drawing for posting.
We do not have a return policy unless the artwork has been damaged in transit, then an original replacement artwork will be sent at the request of the customer. International deliveries might be liable for additional taxes and are at the expense of the customer.
